SLWS Participants
Earlier this week Cameron had some softball representation in Delaware. Members of the Lady Yoe softball team, Diana Salomon, Lindsey Talafuse, and Kasara Brooks participated in the 18U Senior League World Series for team Central Texas district 9 (Team Southwest). Not only did they represent Cameron, their team went undefeated in pool play and were part of the team that made it back to the 18U Senior League World Series Championship. Sadly, this year, they came up ever so short of winning back-to-back championships. Team Southwest breezed by the pool play; beating Latin America 10-1, Delaware D3 5-1, Asia-Pacific 18-2, and team East (New Jersey) 15-5. They moved into the world series bracket and won their first game 15-1 against Southeast region (Georgia), then won 2-1 in the semi-final against team Canada. Unfortunately, their run came to an end in the championship game against Team Central (Illinois) as they were defeated 5-4 in nine hard fought innings. The game was tied 2-2, then after Central crushed a go-ahead homerun to go up 3-2, Team Southwest tied it up again in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 3-3 game. The game went into extra innings and remained tied 3-3 until the ninth inning when Central tacked on two more runs to go up 5-3. Southwest scored one run in the ninth inning to make the score 5-4, but it wasn’t enough as they would fall to Central in the championship. Congratulations to Diana Salomon, Lindsey Talafuse, and Kasara Brooks. The city of Cameron is so proud of these three young ladies and the way they represented themselves, their families, and the school in the Senior League World Series.
