Yoe cross country starts season

The Yoemen cross country team kicked off their season on Aug. 23 at the Celtic Invitational, hosted by Holy Trinity Catholic School in Temple.

There were no girls that ran varsity, Kiera Land had the race of the day. She finished strong and was able to pass up four runners in the last 600 meters, and showed great stamina to put 18 seconds between her and second place, taking home the JV individual girls title with a time of 15:10. Making her high school debut was Madilyn Orocio. She was able to cover the two mile course in a time of 23:51, for a 17th place finish.

The varsity boys were victorious in the team title with a team score of 30 points.

Leading the way for the Yoemen was Damon Flemings, who finished third with a time of 17:12. Teammates Josh Jochec and Brady Havens were right behind him, with Jochec finishing in fourth and Havens finishing in fifth. The time for Jochec was 17:23 and Havens was 17:24. Ricardo Reyes, and new-comer, Alejandro Silva, rounded out the Yoemen’s team scoring. Reyes finished eighth with a time of 18:07 and Silva finished tenth with a time of 18:38. Zach Frausto and Marbel Reducindo were the last to cross the finish line for Cameron. Frausto finished fourteenth with a time of 18:56 and Reducindo finished eighteenth with a time of 19:24.

The team came in with a game plan and Coach Moreno feels the kids executed it to perfection. He feels this race was a test of effort and determination, in which the kids passed with flying colors. Up next for the Yoemen, is the ProFit Invitational on Sept. 1 in Temple.
