Yoemen drop heartbreaker to Bumblebees
The Cameron Yoemen baseball team traveled on Friday to take on the Little River Academy Bumblebees. Cameron fell to Academy in a 6-5 heartbreaker that went to nine innings.
Cameron got on the scoreboard in the first inning, scoring three runs. Landen hit an RBI ground out, scoring one run. The other two runs came on a ground ball double by Dillan Akin.
The Yoemen would take a 4-1 lead, then Academy scored four runs in the fourth inning to take the lead 5-4. Cameron knotted the game up at five in the top of the seventh inning, when Marino Cardona singled on a ground ball to left field, driving in the run. The game was still tied in the bottom of the ninth inning when the Bumblebees scored on a double to centerfield, scoring the game winning run in walk off fashion and handing the Yoemen the 6-5 loss.
Despite the loss, Cameron tallied 12 hits on the day. Armando Reyes, Marino Cardona, Braylon Drake, and Landen Greene each racked up multiple hits for Cameron. Ryan Host started the game for the Yoemen. The righty surrendered five runs on six hits over five and a third innings, striking out seven. Armando Reyes threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen and took the loss for Cameron. He allowed one hit on one run, walking three with three strikeouts.
Cameron looked to rebound from that defeat and hosted the Lexington Eagles on Tuesday. The Yoemen handily defeated the Eagles 14-1 in five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Cameron started strong out of the gate with a whopping nine runs in the first inning and never looked back. Cameron also took advantage of Lexington’s four fielding errors in the inning to help in their nine run spurt. They scored five total runs in the third and fourth inning to activate the ten run rule. Landen Greene got the start on the mound for the Yoemen and was fantastic. He allowed no earned runs, one run total in four innings.
Kason Goolsby came in and threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. The lefty allowed no runs on two hits with two strikeouts.
With this win, Cameron has an overall record of 17-8 and a district record of 8-3.
Up next for the Yoemen will be a road game against the McGregor Bulldogs. The game will be on Friday and first pitch is set for 7 p.m.
