Yoemen fall to Troy and Rogers, move to 4-4

The Cameron Yoemen basketball got two losses this week. They hosted the Troy Trojans on Friday night, losing 61-25. On Tuesday night Cameron went on the road to face the Rogers Eagles. The Yoemen came up empty against Rogers, losing 61-47. 

The Yoemen started slowly, falling behind early 3-0. Cameron broke the drought with a layup by Kelton Driska (15) off a nice assist by Braylan Drake (1) to make the score 3-2. Rogers answered with a 5-0 run to take an 8-2 lead. The Yoemen responded with a basket by Damon Flemings (5) to make it an 8-4 deficit. 

They tightened the gap with a floater by Cody Webb (12) to make the score 10-8. Cameron followed that up with a successful three point play by Kason Goolsby (3) to take forge ahead 11-10. The Eagles responded with a 9-0 run to widen the margin 19-11, which would be the score at the end of the first quarter. 

The first points for Cameron in the second quarter came from a three pointer by Flemings to cut the Rogers lead to 21-14, and they fought back to make the score 21-19. The Yoemen continued their momentum with a basket by RJ Wagnon (10) to only trail 23-21. Cameron remained aggressive with a fastbreak layup by Kevin Sprinkles (21) off a great assist by Goolsby to tie the score at 25. Rogers answered with a 7-0 spurt to lead 32-25. Cameron went into halftime behind 32-26. 

The first points for Cameron in the third quarter came from a layup by Webb to make the score 32-28. The Yoemen inched closer with a three pointer by Flemings to trail 34-31. Rogers responded with a 6-0 run to surge out in front for a score of 40-31. The Yoemen broke their scoring spurt with a three pointer from Flemings for a 40-34 deficit. Third quarter ended with Cameron down 46-41 after a buzzer beating layup by Goolsby. The fourth quarter was a nightmare for Cameron, as Rogers pulled away on a 13-0 run to go ahead 59-41. They broke the drought with a layup by Brayden Williams (11) to make the score 59-43, but they would fall to Rogers, losing 61-47. 

With this loss, Cameron has an overall record of 13-13 and a district record of 4-4. Up next, the Yoemen will travel to take on the Lorena Leopards. The game will be on Friday, Jan. 26, and tip off is set for 7:30 p.m.
