Yoemen look good in scrimmage, set for Lago Vista

Over the last two weeks, the Cameron Yoemen football team has played their scrimmage games.

Two weeks ago, they traveled to Taylor, and last week they hosted Madisonville.

Cameron had a lot of success in those scrimmages and also won against Madisonville with a long touchdown run by Kardarious Bradley.

Overall, Coach Rick Rhoades was pleased with what he saw from his team.

“I thought the kids played really, really hard,” Rhoades said. “I was really excited about our defense the way they flew to the football. I thought our offense did a lot of good things as far as sustaining drives and making plays when they needed to. There was a lot of good things. There’ll be plenty of reasons to practice on Monday, but I saw a lot of good things tonight.”

He also saw improvement in the this last scrimmage, which is what any coach wants to see. This week will be their season opener against the Lago Vista Vikings here in Cameron.

Rhoades knows it will be tough matchup but feels his team can take care of business.

“Lago Vista is a good football team,” he said. “They went to the semi-finals two years ago in 3A, I think they went just as far last year in 4A. They’re a good 4A football team, so we got to do a great job of preparing. If we play hard and play like we’re capable of playing, then we will be OK.”

The game is Friday and kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Yoe Field
