Yoemen playoff run ends at the hands of Maypearl

The Yoemen baseball team saw their season come to an end in the Area round of the playoffs last weekend.

They traveled to Axtell High School to take on the Maypearl Panthers and were defeated in the series 2-1 to end their season. 

Game 1 took place on Friday, and Cameron lost to Maypearl 4-1. Cameron was successful in game 2 winning 6-1 and forced a third game on Saturday, 

The Yoemen opened up the scoring in the first inning of game 2 with three runs. Marino Cardona drew a base-loaded walk, scoring the first run for Cameron. The other two runs were scored on consecutive RBI singles from Mason Kuzel and Dillan Akin. Cameron added on with three more runs in the second inning. Armando Reyes, Braylon Drake, and Mason Kuzel powered the big inning with RBIs.

The Yoemen had six hits in the game. Dillan Akin and Armando Reyes both had multiple hits for Cameron. The Yoemen defense was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Ryan Host led Cameron to victory on the hill. The righthander allowed five hits and one run over seven innings, striking out one and walking one. 

Later that day Cameron and Maypearl played the pivotal game 3. Cameron was defeated 11-1 in five innings due to the ten run rule.

The Panthers scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back. The lone bright spot of the game was a solo home run by Armando Reyes in the third inning. Maypearl led the Yoemen 9-1 going into the bottom of the fifth inning, when they scored two runs to activate the run rule.
