Yoemen still struggling in district play

The Cameron Yoemen baseball team hosted the Little River Academy Bumblebees on Friday, April 5. Cameron was defeated by Academy, losing 14-9.

The Bumblebees jumped on Cameron early with three runs in the top of the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead. Cameron answered back in the bottom of the first inning with two runs of their own to close the gap to 3-2.

Kason Goolsby came home to score on a passed ball that got by the catcher, then Yovanni Cerros followed that by coming home and scoring on a wild pitch.

Academy pulled away in the next two innings scoring seven unanswered runs to grow their lead to 10-2. The Yoemen found themselves trailing 14-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning and added some excitement and drama scoring five runs, but it would not be enough for a comeback victory and they would fall to Academy 14-9.

The Yoemen stayed home to host the Lexington Eagles on Tuesday, April 9.

This win gives Cameron an overall record of 10-12 and a district record of 1-7.

After playing the Lexington Eagles on Wednesday, the Yoemen will return home for a rematch with the Eagles. The game will be Friday, April 12, and is set for 7 p.m.
