Lady Eagles earn playoff spot
The Milano Lady Eagles (12-14, 6-6) are head to the playoffs. The team finished up its District 25-2A schedule on Tuesday night against No. 13 Thorndale at Geneva Paceley Gym. Despite falling 63-28 to district champion Thorndale, Milano finished third in the final league standings. Hearne is the second place team and Holland clinched the fourth place spot. The Lady Eagles will face the second place team from 26-2A in the bi-district round of the postseason. That will most likely be Normangee. The date, time nor place has been decided at Herald press time on Wednesday. On Tuesday night, Milano seniors Faith Walton, Sterling Robertson, Elizabeth Pedroza and Ashlyn Johnson were honored before the game on senior night. Robertson was the team’s leading scorer with 15 points against Thorndale. Hannah Batten scored four points and Bethanie Compton three. Abby Miller, McKenna Robertson and Walton put up two points apiece. Milano fell on the road at Hearne on Friday night in a key district matchup. The 59-51 Hearne win sealed second play for them behind league champion Thorndale in the 25-2A standings. Sterling Robertson put up 16 points and McKenna Robertson added 12. Batten also scored in double figures with 11. Walton recorded nine points and Kristian Taylor rang up three.
