Milano Lady Eagles open District 27-2A play with 15-0 blowout of Bartlett
The Milano Lady Eagles (4-3-1, 1-0) opened up District 27-2A play on Tuesday afternoon in a 15-0 blowout at Bartlett. Senior ace Jenna Lewis only had to face nine Lassie batters in the contest, as the Eagle defense retired the side in each of the three innings in the game. Lewis fanned three Bartlett batters. The game was shortened by the run-rule. Freshman McKenna Robertson accounted for four runs batted in, with an inside the park home run and a double. She also scored twice and stole a base. Laynie Bastow went twofor-two with an RBI, a stolen base and scored three times. Sterling Robertson smashed a triple and recorded an RBI and a run. Lewis helped her own cause with a hit on the night. Kristian Taylor also recorded a hit and added two runs, two stolen bases and a run batted in. Abby Olson scored twice and stole two bases, with Bethanie Compton scoring once and swiping a base. Mollie Ybarra and Dara Doelitsch each stole a base in the victory. Milano played in the Caldwell tournament over the weekend, going 2-2-1. The Lady Eagles defeated Bellville and Franklin, fell to Rogers and Caldwell and tied with Lexington Bastow hit a homerun in the win over Franklin and Lewis threw 11 strikeouts in the Lexington game. The Lady Eagles will play in the Franklin tournament over the weekend and pick up 27-2A play on Tuesday when they host Milam County neighbor Thorndale.
