Yoemen fall to Academy, beat McGregor

The Yoemen’s comeback fell short Tuesday night as they lost in Academy 44-42. With the loss the Yoemen fall to 12-10, 7-5 in district play. Academy improves to 11-1 in district play. Academy had a big first quarter with 20 points and the Yoemen never quite caught up. Dre Booze lead the team with 18 points. Others scoring for the Yoemen were Braden Brashear with eight, Kadrian Hammond with six, Kobe Young with six, Thomas Melton with two, ZaKorien Spikes with one, and Nico Vargas with one. The Yoe Junior Varsity also lost to Academy 55-30. Scoring for the Yoemen were KeVaughn Booze with 12, TK Young with seven, Jaiden Sanchez with six, Brayden Hollomon with two, Will Scott with two, and Davarius Bynaum with one. The Yoe Junior Varsity B defeated Academy 38-33. Scoring were Phaibian Bynaum with 14, Ryan Muniz with eight, Javoun Goldsby with six, Nolan Brashear with four, Davioun Scott with four, and Aarick Nelson with two. The Yoemen are set for rival Rockdale in Rockdale on Friday night. Games begin at 5 p.m. They will end the season up Feb. 12 at home against Rogers. The Yoemen still have a chance at the playoffs if they win the next two.

McGregor

The Yoemen jumped out to a 20-13 first quarter lead and never looked back as they beat the McGregor Bulldogs 74-58 on Feb. 1 at Yoe Gym. Kobe Young lead the Yoemen in scoring with 25 points followed by Dre Booze with 17 points. Others scoring for the Yoemen were Nico Vargas with 13, Thomas Melton with seven, Braden Brashear with six, Kadrian Hammond with four, and Greg England with two. The Junior Varsity won 59-46 over McGregor. Scoring were Jaiden Sanchez with 18, KeVaugn Booze with 16, Brayden Hollomon with 12, TK Young with six, Asioun Haynes with four, Billy Collier with two, and Will Scott with one. The Junior Varsity B defeated McGregor 49-38. Scoring were Nolan Brashear with 12, Phaibian Bynaum with nine, Davioun Scott with eight, Ryan Muniz with eight, Aarick Nelson with four, Javoun Goldsby with three, Kai Reynolds with three, and Tate Stroud with two.
